Gaarriye
Gaarriye (born Maxamed Xaashi Dhamac; 1949 – 30 September 2012) was a poet from Somalia.
Gaarriye was born in Hargeisa. He was a member of the Somali National Movement.〔Didier Morin, ''Littérature et politique en Somalie'', Centre d'étude d'Afrique noire, Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux, 1997, p.32〕 He composed one of the best known Somali poems on the theme of reconciliation, "Hagarlaawe" (The Charitable).〔''Rebuilding Somaliland:issues and possibilities'', Red Sea Press, 2005, p. 141〕
Gaarriye died at a hospital in Norway on 30 September 2012.
